Values
Shirlee believes that service to neighbors and community are responsibilities to be shared. Her elders and mentors on the City Council are retiring after dedicated service for many years and she is prepared to undertake the commitment of stepping into that role.
Shirlee believes that new solutions for energy production and personal mobility will cause the future to look very different from the past. The Evans family home is 60 years old, but with re-insulation and high efficiency appliances, the photovoltaic panels on the roof produce enough electricity to meet all needs even in the winter months.
She follows the lead of her husband Ron in enjoyment of skiing, biking, hiking, canoeing and protection of our unique Central Oregon environment.
Shirlee is passionate about the special qualities of Central Oregon and she wants newcomers to feel the same sense of welcome and involvement as oldtimers. She appreciates diversity of opinion, and will encourage everyone to speak their piece.
As a physical therapist, Shirlee has been involved in public health issues for 23 years, and knows that a healthy community is an economic asset. She is passionate about respecting and caring for our oldest and wisest citizens.
Shirlee wants anyone to be able to be involved in local government if they have that desire. For that reason, she is voluntarily limiting her campaign spending and has chosen to not ask for contributions.
She actively supports these organizations:
The Nature Conservancy
Heifer International (ending hunger through sustainable agriculture)
Bicycle Transportation Alliance
Union of Concerned Scientists
Oregon Public Broadcasting
Oregon Natural Desert Association
Habitat for Humanity
